WMS Sketch Challenge #36 & H2H Color Challenge

So this time I'm again combining a sketch from one challenge with another challenge...H2H this week was to use the colors Gypsy, Creme Brulee & Black (Close To My Heart colors). I don't have Gypsy so I used Hydrangea, which is similar.

I have another rental set from Raisin Boat that I had yet to use, so I pulled it out and was the first one to ink it up! It is called Strokes of Wisdom, and it is such a cool set! I have never had a set before with stamps that simulate a crayon scribbling...it is a beautiful effect. I may just have to buy this set! ;)

So here is the Waltzingmouse sketch for this week:

I turned it on its side and came up with this:
Photobucket

I needed a baby card for a friend who recently had her 3rd little one, so I just added a baby sentiment inside which coordinated with the outside sentiment, "Celebrate the little things".

In the 25 minutes that I had left in my crafting time today, I wanted to pull together another quick card, so I used the same stamp set again and made this multi-purpose card (though it will probably be a birthday card):
Photobucket

I had such fun today! :)

Papertrey February Blog Hop

I wish I had a bunch more artwork to share today, but with TWO snow days this week, I didn't get my full crafting time with my girlies at home with me.

The challenge for this month's hop is scallops. I've had the eyelet lace border for awhile now with only limited use, so I thought I'd give it a workout! I chose Basic Grey's Two Scoops papers because I've loved them for a long time and haven't used them up yet! They are now discontinued, but I seem to be continuing the trend of using up some of my old papers before I delve into my giant new stash. These Two Scoops papers just make me think of yummy birthday cake & decorations.

I went through my massive stash of paper scraps and chose several colors of cardstock that coordinated with the colors in the Two Scoops papers. I used all of these to cut the eyelet lace borders for my background. I used Cupcake Collection again with the coordinating dies because I love this set! I use a Stampin' Up border punch with the coordinating corner punch to punch the scallops around the square frame in the middle. I hope this is a pleaser! :)

Supplies used:

Cardstock: Sweet Blush (PTI); assorted cardstock scraps
Patterned Paper: Basic Grey Two Scoops
Stamp Set(s): Cupcake Collection, Limitless Labels
Ink: Chocolate, Indian Corn Blue, Black (CTMH); Colorbox chalk ink
Embellishments: Bitty Sparkles (CTMH)
Tools: Cupcake Collection dies, Eyelet Lace border die (PTI); Scallop Trim border & corner punches, Small Oval & Scallop Oval punches (SU)

Waltzingmouse Sketch Challenge #34 AND H2H Challenge Feb Week 4

I must post quickly this time around because I'm running out of time to do everything this evening...I'm posting a card for this week's Waltzingmouse sketch challenge:

I don't know if I'll actually be able to enter this into the WMS challenge because somehow the inlinkz has been closed earlier than it should be. Boo, I'm sad.

Anyway, I can also enter it into this week's H2H Challenge, to make a card that makes you think "COLD". This card fits for both...it's simple, but I'm loving using my new Echo Park Wintertime paper!

Another Papertrey Make It Monday & Mojo Monday 179

So Papertrey's Make It Monday challenge this week is to make glitter strips using scor-tape. I combined the task with this week's Mojo Monday sketch, and voilà! I have so much new wonderful paper to use that I've had to take inventory in order to organize and put it all away....and I've been reminded of all the wonderful OLD paper I have! I pulled out this Basic Grey Nook & Pantry paper pad that I bought last year...now that I'm getting more and more into the vintage look, I found myself drawn to the patterns and colors of this 60s style kitchen look. I love cupcakes so the background paper was a must! I also love the doily papers...doilies are the huge thing right now so I was totally digging these.

With all the goodness in this stack, I decided to try my hand at making a card with this it. It's a work in progress...I'm not 100% satisfied with the way it turned out, but I still like these papers. I added a glitter stripe with my "scor-tape" (it's actually Terrifically Tacky Tape, which is basically the same thing), but then I wanted to add more glitter elsewhere, so I used some die-cut tacky tape that I got a long time ago from Stampin' Up to add the glass glitter that's behind the focal point...then I stamped the sentiment with Versamark and poured some heat & stick powder on it, then added the glitter. It's not totally clear, but I thought it turned out kind of cute, so I went with it.

Here's the Mojo Monday sketch:

And here's my take:
Photobucket

Supplies used:

Cardstock: Lemon Tart (PTI), Cocoa (CTMH)
Patterned Paper: from Nook & Pantry 6x6 paper pad (Basic Grey)

Tools: Arrow Hearts border punch (SU or EK Success); Pendant die & Scallop circle die (Spellbinders)

Verve's Get Your Diva On challenge

Here again, with another card for a Verve challenge, called "Get Your Diva On"...they say that you don't have to use Verve stamps to participate...but I doubt I'll win anything with other stamps! Still, I really wanted to pull out the Cupcake Collection stamp set from Papertrey, because I haven't had the chance to use it yet.

Here is the inspiration photo for the project:

I love all things Valentine's and my fave colors are pink, red & brown, so this one was lots of fun. Pretty simple, but I got to use my new sei chocolat papers that just came in the mail yesterday! yipee! This assortment has some gorgeous shimmer papers (I included a couple on my card) as well as beautiful glitter, embossed, flocked, you name it! A wonderful collection. I couldn't pass it up.

And here's my card:

This is a detail that hopefully shows the shimmer paper on the bottom better:

Waltzingmouse Sketch Challenge #34 AND Papertrey's Make it Monday for this week!

Once again, I'm killing two challenges with one card...Papertrey's Make it Monday challenge was to use a vellum sentiment strip, so I combined that with Waltzingmouse's sketch and voilà my combo card!

I cut the window with Papertrey's Mat Stack 1 die...I LOVE their dies...they cut so beautifully through more than one piece of cardstock/patterned paper and leave a really nice, clean & professional looking edge to your cut piece.

I recently got Making Memories' new Valentine line, Je t'Adore, so I just had to use the music note paper that's on the back of the Floral Ledger. This collection had the MOST ADORABLE embellishment box so I used one of the cute little flower embellishments from that.

The frame inside the card that shows through the window is from Mat Stack 2 Collection. The little present was cut with dies that coordinate with Make a Wish, along with the little cake tray stamp which is also from Make a Wish.

I also used PT's eyelet lace border die to cut the borders from a piece of text paper from Making Memories' last year's Valentine line, Love Shack.

I just received (yesterday) Big Birthday Wishes, a new set (released last month) from Papertrey which I just love. Used that for the sentiment stamped on the vellum. They have a coordinating set of number dies that I used to cut the "44" out and place it behind the embossed vellum. I put it there so it wouldn't be so blatant to the recipient as I broadcast her age!! Sssshhhh...ha, just kidding.

So there you have it, a sketch & a vellum strip sentiment, all in one little card (it's a 5x7 size by the way) I posted a few pics so the details can all be clearly seen.

H2H Challenge February Week 3 & a Raisin Boat birthday card for fun!!

I'm back to post an H2H Challenge card for this week...pretty easy being that the only requirement was to have a card with a heart on it! Since I have a huge stack of lovey cards stockpiled, I just picked one out that I'd already made. Not too much to this one...pretty simple. I made it with Operation Write Home in mind, and I like to keep cards for them pretty flat, without all my usual bulky embellishments! Those kind aren't very practical to ship overseas. So, I think this one qualifies for the challenge, even though it has only one tiny heart on it...I think there's a BIG implied heart! ;)

Photobucket

Supplies used:

Cardstock: Stamper's Select White (PTI); Hollyhock (CTMH)
Patterned Paper: Valentine paper pad (Martha Stewart Crafts)
Stamp Set(s): Priceless Love Word Puzzle (CTMH)
Ink: Tulip (CTMH)
Embellishments: Hollyhock ric rac ribbon (CTMH); Flower eyelets (?)

I also have another card for today. I have just gone a little nuts with stocking up on some gorgeous Valentine papers from different companies because I loved it so much and I know that it will shortly (if not already) be gone forever...

However, I also recently signed up with a stamp rental company (yep, you read that right) called Raisin Boat. They have very cute little stamp sets, and for $7.99 a month, which includes shipping ($5.99 for the first 2 months), you can have 2 stamp sets out at a time. They have hundreds of sets available, tons of cute ones that I'd normally think were fun but not buy because I thought I wouldn't use them enough. This way you get to try them first (no time limit) and then you can send them back or buy them if you decide they're indispensable. You put your desired sets in a queue (like Netflix) and they send them to you in that order! I was hooked. I can never get tired of trying new stamp sets!

All this is to say that I made a card with one of their stamp sets that I received recently. I'm kind of a freak for cute foodie type stamps, and this set grabbed me immediately, called "Guilty Pleasures". Even though I will definitely be making more love cards with my new papers, I wanted to also move on to birthday cards. I thought of a fun idea of how to use this stamp set for a birthday card. (Even though this card doesn't actually say Happy Birthday anywhere on it, it's implied) I'm liking the way it turned out. All of the stamps on this card, sentiments and images are from this set except for the "It's a Celebration" sentiment, which is from Papertrey.

Papertrey AND Waltzingmouse Creative Button Use Challenge

Edited to add: Today (Feb 17) is Waltzingmouse blog hop day! And I wanted to enter this card into their blog waltz because their theme is also "Designing with Buttons"...

In celebration of their upcoming release called Button Boutique and all its accompanying accoutrements (so much cuteness!), Papertrey is doing another giveaway for a huge prize package. The challenge was to make a card creatively using buttons. I'd had this idea knocking around my head for awhile since the Waltzingmouse blog hop this month is has the same challenge! (Yay, killing two birds with one stone again! Not that I wouldn't like to make yet another button card, but time constraints and demands for a zillion other paper projects dictate that I must be efficient)

Can I just say, I LOVE HOW THIS CARD TURNED OUT! Being on a learning curve means that my perfectionist self is only completely happy with how a creation turns out about 10% of the time. (Let's hope that number keeps going up! ;) This is one of the 10%. I'm so thrilled with how it ended up.

I just just gotten some Stampin' Up specialty designer paper that I wanted to use, so I pulled that out, along with rainbow colors of inks, LOTS of buttons, and my little butterfly (loving this little guy) from Love Lives Here.

Here is the result:

Supplies used:

Papertrey Designers' Favorite Color Combo Challenge + Mojo Monday 177 & H2H Challenge

Whew! It's now 12:51am, and I'm just now getting my entries posted for the Color Challenge that Papertrey posted yesterday...as part of the 4th anniversary festivities, it was announced that a new color combination binder will be available this month....yay! I love this idea, to be able to come up with awesome color combinations, quickly and easily.

Each PT designer shared their favorite color combo (10 total) and the challenge was to take one or some or all of them and make a project using those color combos. The prize is a ginormous collection of cardstock, felt, ribbon, etc...my dream come true! ;) You can have up to 11 entries...one for a comment, and one for each color combination..So I say to myself, "Sure, I can make 10 cards in one day! I'll just keep it simple, use the same layout for all of them, just change the color combo...no problem!" Well, for me it just doesn't work out that easily, which is why it's so late right now. LOL. I just have too hard a time keeping it simple! Plus I have so many stamps I want to use, and pulling together all the right papers for the combos...it took much longer than I thought. But at least I can say that I did my level best to get as many entries as I possibly could! ;) (Actually, I ran out of steam at 9 cards...so I'll get an even 10 entries. Oh well, ha)

I also decided to go ahead and kill a couple more birds with the same stone, so I made several of the cards with the Mojo Monday layout for this week, as well as the H2H challenge from last week that I'm a bit behind on. It may be late, and I'm going to be a wreck tomorrow morning, but I think I have done it! :)

So here's the Mojo Monday sketch and the cards I made with this layout-->>

And below is my card with Betsy's favorite color combo: Scarlet Jewel, Hibiscus Burst, Harvest Gold & Rustic Cream ~

Next up, same layout, with Nichole's combo: Melon Berry, Terracotta Tile, Kraft & Dark Chocolate ~

This is the H2H Challenge sketch for last week --->>

And my card, using Lisa's colors: Pure Poppy, Spring Rain, Kraft, Vintage Cream ~
Photobucket

By this point, I was starting to get exhausted and realized that I had to make 4 more cards, so they had better be very similar and SIMPLE! The next four cards are all basically the same layout, my attempt to be simple.

Here is Heather's favorite color combos: Ripe Avocado, Spring Rain, Dark Chocolate, Kraft ~
Photobucket

And Melissa Phillips' colors: Hibiscus Burst, Sweet Blush, Ripe Avocado, Spring Moss ~

Jessica's Witty's colors: Soft Stone, Summer Sunrise, Aqua Mist & Raspberry Fizz ~

And last but not least, Erin's colors: Ripe Avocado, Ocean Tides, Vintage Cream, & Dark Chocolate ~

I must admit that putting together these projects with these color combinations was a TON of fun! And now, I must go to bed. Nighty night!

WMS Sketch Challenge #33

New week, my next Waltzingmouse Sketch Challenge. I will keep this short since I rambled on extensively on my previous post about being a paper-aholic.

Here is the lovely little sketch:
Photobucket

And here is my card:
Photobucket

WMS is giving away an adorable stamp set for this week's challenge called Sweethearts. I want that one! Each week I want to use more WM stamps but I don't have enough! ;) I hope I win so I can increase my collection!!!! ;)

Supplies used:

Cardstock: Hibiscus Burst (PTI)
Patterned Paper: from Smitten collection by K & Co
Stamp Set(s): Very Vintage Labels No. 2 (WMS); Thankful Accents (Verve)
Ink: Dark Chocolate (PTI); Tulip (CTMH)
Embellishments: Candy stickers (Martha Stewart Crafts); Chipboard photo corner (Creative Imaginations); Ribbon (assorted)
Tools: Collage Texture Fade embossing folder (Tim Holtz for Sizzix)

My name is Rachel and I'm a paper-aholic...(oh, and another Valentine's card to share)

So yes, I am admitting my addiction, but NOT yet ready to seek help. ;) I LOVE paper! Especially Valentine's paper...all kinds, all color combinations, so many papers that come out around Valentine's Day make me drool and lose my mind, making me buy up enough paper to last for the next 10 Valentine's Days, but I can't help myself!

In case you might be like me and need some enabling, and haven't seen these paper lines, check out the ones I just got...gah! I ordered them and am waiting with baited breath to get my hot little hands on them.

Echo Park Paper Be Mine Collection
Making Memories Je T'Adore collection
Bo Bunny Crush collection

My current fetish is all things with music notes on it and beautiful vintage things (but not TOO eclectic, à la Graphic 45) I also spent a year of my college education in France, so of course I'm in love with all things French, and the Echo Park & Making Memories papers just make me swoon!

Yes, I am indeed a paper-aholic. I have more than I'll ever be able to use in my lifetime and I want MORE! ;)

OK, now that I've gotten that off my chest, I will share a very simple but pleasing (to me) card I made, for...wait for it...ah yes, Valentine's Day. (I know, I need help) Just some adorable yummy paper I couldn't resist last year from Martha Stewart Crafts. No extensive fanciness here, but I enjoy when I can create a simple card that I am happy with.

Papertrey's New Make It Monday Challenge -->> Go To Sentiments with Emboss Resist

As part of Papertrey's 4th anniversary festivities, they have announced a new weekly challenge called "Make It Monday"...Each week a PTI designer will feature a video with a particular technique or idea, for inspiration. Then we, the loyal fans ;), will make a project based on that inspiration. Every week, a free stamp set will be up for grabs, yay! But even more importantly, it will force me to exercise and stretch my creativity, and try to achieve excellence each week to be up to Papertrey par! :)

This week, for the 4th anniversary celebration, they will be giving away a $250 gift certificate! Drool! Erin Lincoln posted a great video with a cute idea --> to make a card using multiple sentiments surrounding a theme, all stamped in a collage-type format on the front of the card. Simple, neat, and a fun new idea!

I decided to try a technique that I've been reading about for ages but haven't really tried yet: emboss resist. I wanted to make a love card, so I stamped sentiments from many of my different Papertrey lovey-dovey sets...then heat embossed each one with clear embossing powder, all on vellum cardstock. Then I simply sponged over the whole thing with Distress Inks...and voilà! I distressed the edges of the vellum, roughing it up so that it would have curled and slightly torn edges; matted it with white cardstock so the sentiments & images would show up better, then simply added a little patterned paper and a bracket border to the bottom of the card.

I also added some beautiful red foil paper to the inside of the card at the bottom so it would be peeking out when you're looking at the card closed, face on. I tried to photograph this as best I could, but alas, my photography skills (and equipment) remain somewhat lacking. Something I will have to remedy in the near future. Hopefully it can be viewed well enough.

Oh, and I also stamped & embossed the cute little butterfly from Love Lives Here with red glittered embossing powder, cut them out and made them take flight with some foam tape! :)

So here is my first Make It Monday challenge project...I hope it tickles someone's fancy! :)

Papertrey's 4th Anniversary Festivities

Papertrey Ink is celebrating their 4th anniversary with some amazing prizes!! Oh my gosh, it would be like winning the lottery or Publisher's Clearinghouse Sweepstakes if I won the prize they're giving away today. Over $700 in craft-watering goodness!! ;)

To enter I am supposed to post (one of) my favorite projects from 2010...I just went back through all my projects using Papertrey stamps (which is the majority!) and it's so hard to choose!!

I did most of my Christmas cards with their gorgeous stamps and I really did love how they all turned out. Though I can hardly choose a favorite, I'm going to re-post here a couple of cards that I made using Take a Bough. It was a not a new release in 2010 I don't believe, but it was new for me, and I simply fell in love with it. The font, the sentiments, the images, I love them all!

So without further ado, (just a couple of) my cards with Take a Bough:

WMS Sketch Challenge #32

My card for WMS Sketch Challenge #32 was an interesting experiment in evolution. I didn't exactly intend for it to be so "shabby chic" looking, but though I had a couple of ideas to start with, most of it just sort of happened as I was putting it together! This is the fun of creating. Sometimes it works out amazingly...other times...not so much. But this one is growing on me.

Here's the lovely & simple sketch:

And here's my version, all layered up. (I'm a huge fan of layering, though I really do like clean & simple too...I just have to figure out how to do it right so that I like it! ;)
